About the Game

Hoops GM is a basketball management simulation where you start at the bottom and work your way up. Unlike typical sports games, there's no pay-to-win โ€” it's pure strategy. You navigate a dynamic free agent market, manage a full roster with starters, bench, and reserves, and make tough decisions about when to spend big on talent versus building for the future.

The game features a complex simulation engine with built-in randomness, meaning the better team doesn't always win. Games play out with detailed live play-by-play, so you can watch your strategic decisions come to life. After winning the top-tier championship, you unlock Prestige mode โ€” a harder restart with permanent bonuses that tests how far you can push your legacy.

What I Learned

Hoops GM was a deep dive into systems design โ€” building interconnected economies, balancing simulation outcomes so they feel fair but unpredictable, and designing UI that presents complex data clearly on a mobile screen. It pushed me to think about long-term engagement and progression design in a way my action games didn't, and taught me a lot about what makes management games satisfying to play over dozens of hours.
